The Year in an Overview:
Students will begin the year with a general introduction to Earth
& Space Science. Next students will be introduced to the metric
system. Temperature and Chemistry lessons will follow that will
lead into rocks and minerals. After that we will explore
Geological features and mining practices. Natural resources
including oil, gas, solar, wind, nuclear, and thermal will be
investigated.
Then we will turn
our attention to Astronomy. The constellation project, utilizing
Starry Night software and the solar research project will dominate
this unit. Galaxies, planets, moons and other objects in the
universe will be explored.
Next plate
tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, fossils and geochronology will
be investigated. Finally environment and ecology and weather
explorations will conclude the year. The last event will be the
student’s presentation of the year long National Park research
project. It will incorporate learned Earth and Space topics that
relate to their National Park presentation.
All activities are in conjunction
with State/ National Academic Standards for Science and
Technology. Text page numbers are given for students to see the
connection with the text and reading strategies/ standards.
Please note:
technology assignments will require students bringing in a memory
USB stick to save their projects on for transfer home.
