In celebration of Black History Month we will research some famous black scientists and other inventors. The project will begin by viewing a four part series on inventions. Research will be conducted on the internet this year for the first time. We will use the Pittsburgh Press African American newspaper program. Also some students may enter the Craftsman /NSTA Young Inventors Awards contest.

 

Students will explain and describe contributions black scientists made in their field of study. Students will choose an inventor or scientist of choice approved by Mr. Schaefers. The project will require the student to research and make a presentation in written form, typed, double spaced 10 or 12 point and give information about the inventor or scientist.
For each of the following areas: A TYPED report !

 

(1) THE NAME OF THE INVENTOR (INVENTION) OR SCIENTIST AND HIS/HER CONTRIBUTION; 4 PTS
(2) HOW DID THE INVENTION, DISCOVERY, IDEA, OR BREAKTHROUGH OCCUR,              6 PTS

(3) THE INVENTOR OR SCIENTIST, WHY WAS THIS PERSON SUCCESSFUL, INCLUDE THE

     EDUCATION (BACKGROUND) OF THE PERSON;                                      6 PTS

(4) WHAT DID YOU FIND INTERESTING ABOUT THIS INVENTOR OR SCIENTIST;             4 PTS

(5) BACKGROUND HISTORY OF THE INVENTION OR DISCOVERY FROM ITS INCEPTION;        4 PTS

(6) GIVE AN OVERVIEW OF THE PRESENT FORM OF THE TECHNOLOGY,
    INCLUDING ANY SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLES INVOLVED IN ITS FUNCTIONING;            4 PTS

(7) CONSEQUENCES- RECOGNIZING THAT ALL TECHNOLOGIES HAVE POSITIVE AND
    NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES, DESCRIBE THE POTENTIAL POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE
